Easier access to research institutes
INNOSQUARE strengthens companies’ innovative capability with access to talented engineering resources as well as research and innovation competences and equipment. As the recognized research and innovation partner of the blueFACTORY, INNOSQUARE facilitates interactions between business and academia and contributes to the innovation policy of the canton of Fribourg. The platform aims to improve the competitiveness of Competence Center and Cluster partners as well as that of technology-based businesses. TechTransfer Fribourg is the technology transfer office of Fribourg University, Adolphe Merkle Institute and the School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg. This platform serves as a key entry point for companies who want to explore partnership opportunities with research institutes. It also advises on intellectual property issues. Alliance, the knowledge and technology transfer consortium of western Switzerland, plays a similar role on a larger scale: it provides companies with an impressive network of 6,000 researchers from universities and teaching hospitals.

The competence centers of the Canton of Fribourg bridge the gap between science and economy by providing state-of-the-art infrastructures and recognised expertise. As true platforms for experimentation and prototyping, they enable companies to develop and test new technologies within an interdisciplinary environment. Together, they enhance the competitiveness of Fribourg’s economic fabric and confirm the canton’s status as a reference innovation hub.
The Biofactory Competence Center (BCC) offers an industrial-scale bioproduction environment that eases the transition from life-science research to large-scale production. The Digital Printing Competence Center (iPrint) designs high-precision printing processes for sectors such as aerospace, health and packaging. The Robust and Safe Systems Center (ROSAS) develops safe and reliable electronic systems, especially for automotive, aerospace and embedded applications. Finally, the Smart Living Lab brings together researchers and companies to imagine and test the sustainable technologies and ways of life of tomorrow in the fields of building, energy and mobility.

Networks for fostering sectoral synergies
Fribourg’s clusters promote cooperation between companies, higher-education institutions and public organizations within thematic ecosystems. By pooling expertise, facilitating networking and driving sectoral innovation, they bolster the canton’s economic drive and support key industrial sectors.
The Cluster Food & Nutrition connects around 200 actors in the food value chain to strengthen collaboration and drive innovation, helping shape the food system of tomorrow. The Swiss Polymers Cluster links industry and research in order to improve its members’ competitiveness and productivity through the promotion of plastics technologies, public-private partnerships, continuous training, networking and high-value added services.
