Fribourg’s grey matter at the service of industry: technology transfer at the heart of the 2020 edition of FNF

Getting the most out of cooperation between academic research and industry: this is the challenge of technology transfer. The 2020 edition of Fribourg Network Freiburg, the business magazine of the Canton of Fribourg, explores the advantages of this win-win partnership, discovering several successful examples. The magazine was unveiled at the end of a round table organized by the Fribourg Development Agency in the presence of ETH Zurich President Joël Mesot. Fribourg Network Freiburg is getting a new look, with a revised English edition and a website in French, German and English that will be updated throughout the year.

With its University and its numerous specialist higher education institutes, Fribourg has no shortage of grey matter. Companies, for their part, are looking for innovative solutions. Working together on concrete research projects strengthens the innovative potential and competitiveness of the Canton’s industry. It also provides researchers with opportunities to apply the results of their work in practice. This opportunity is not lost on Olivier Curty, State Councillor, Ministry of Economic Affairs of the canton of Fribourg: “Stepping up the transfer of knowledge and technology is at the top of our agenda and, as this issue of Fribourg Network Freiburg shows, concerted efforts are already under way and the results so far have been impressive”.
The 2020 edition will focus on concrete examples of technology transfer in the canton of Fribourg.

Launch event

The 2020 edition of Fribourg Network Freiburg was unveiled at a round table organized by the Fribourg Development Agency on Monday, August 31, 2020 at the Fribourg School of Engineering and Architecture. Representatives from the worlds of academia and business discussed the key stages of successful technology transfer, in the presence of ETH Zurich President Joël Mesot and navigator Mathieu Gobet, the first Fribourg resident to take part in the Mini-Transat. For Jerry Krattiger, Managing Director of the Fribourg Development Agency, “this round table served as an inspiration for Fribourg’s universities and companies to embark on the necessary adventure of technology transfer. This is an opportunity not to be missed for the economic fabric of Fribourg.”
